SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–W2O Group, a network of fast-growing, complementary digital, marketing and communications firms, announced today that veteran biopharma executive John H. Johnson and healthcare marketing and communications leader Charlene Prounis have joined its board of directors.

“John and Charlene immediately bring complementary business insights, industry access, network exposure and unmatched expertise that can help us more expeditiously catapult to the next level of client-forward expansion and growth,” said Jim Weiss, founder, CEO and board member of W2O Group. “Both are proven and well-recognized leaders with directly relevant expertise that we can apply to better serve our clients and more precisely tailor and target our offerings and partnerships, particularly in healthcare, which currently makes up 75 percent of our business.”

Johnson has more than three decades of commercial and C-suite experience in the pharma and biotech industries where he has held top executive leadership roles for such industry-leading companies as Johnson & Johnson, Eli Lilly, ImClone, Pfizer and Dendreon. He currently serves on the board of directors of several emerging biopharmaceutical companies and previously served on the board of directors of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) and as a member of the Health Section Governing Board of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO).

“You see the way that social media is shifting the landscape of communications and the resulting need for new thinking, models and approaches. W2O continues to lead the way in this new world with great people – real thought leaders,” said Johnson. “Not only will I be able to give back through my experience, but I will be learning at the same time. It’s a very exciting time to be in this business and, at W2O, it’s growing substantially. It’s just an honor to be part of it by joining W2O Group’s board of directors.”

Prounis has been an outstanding leader and entrepreneur in the healthcare communications and marketing services sector over the last 30 years and is a highly engaged advocate for empowering and celebrating women in the healthcare industry. After spending her formative years at Grey Healthcare Group, she successfully launched and led two successive agencies, Accel and Flashpoint Medica, both of which were ultimately acquired by Omnicom. Over two tenures as president of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA), she created the annual HBA Leadership Conference and established the Rising Stars Awards, which celebrate women in the early-to-mid stage of their careers. She has also served as a member of the board of directors of the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame.

“What interested me in joining W2O Group’s board of directors is the fact that this firm is really in front of the trends in the industry,” said Prounis. “If you think about where the agency world is going, it’s going to take a new convergence — of analytics, creative, technology, and media. W2O Group does that really well.”

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–W2O Group, a network of complementary digital, marketing, and communications firms, reported a record year in 2016, with a $30 million increase in revenue to $122.7 million from $92.2 million* in 2015.

“2016 was an incredible year of growth, transformation and assimilation of new capabilities and talent, all directed at providing clients with the strongest counsel and support as they navigate the new digital communications reality,” said Jim Weiss, founder and CEO of W2O Group. “We expanded our portfolio and significantly strengthened our financial position through a number of strategic moves including our partnership with Mountaingate Capital and the acquisitions of Pure, Marketeching and Sentient. Each of these firms brought a highly complementary set of capabilities and expertise along with exceptionally talented people.”

He added, “All of these moves combined to help us successfully navigate well beyond the $100 million revenue threshold for the first time in our 15-year history, while exponentially improving our profitability.”

The leaders of the three newly acquired organizations are now integrated within W2O Group firms and practices: Andrea Johnston leads the new Pure (which represents the combination of Pure and Brew Life) as president; Kevin Johnson oversees healthcare analytics as president of Marketeching reporting to Seth Duncan, chief analytics officer; Adam Cossman, co-founder of Sentient, was named chief digital officer, and Jeff Rohwer, co-founder of Sentient, leads the digital strategy and media team.

Fast-growing Firm Deepens Research, Analytics and Strategic Capabilities in Core Healthcare and Life Sciences Business

SAN FRANCISCO & NEW HOPE, Pa.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–W2O Group, a network of complementary digital, marketing and communications firms, today announced the acquisition of Marketeching Solutions, LLC, a leading research and social listening consultancy focused in healthcare and life sciences.

“Marketeching is one of the strongest social research and analytics consultancies focused in healthcare today, particularly in the biopharmaceutical and medical device sectors, where W2O Group companies are also particularly strong and focused,” said Jim Weiss, W2O Group founder and CEO. “The company’s qualitative approach will strengthen our existing quantitative healthcare analytics and insights capabilities and perfectly complements our increasingly expansive MDigitalLife platform.”

Marketeching, founded in 2008 by Kevin Johnson, is based in the center of the Northeast biopharma corridor with offices in New Hope, Pa., and Philadelphia. The company, which uniquely combines traditional and social/online data analytics methodologies and approaches, has rapidly become a partner-of-choice for market researchers, digital centers of excellence, and brand marketers. Marketeching’s offerings, which include patient journeys, disease mapping, key influencer profiling and linguistics/content analyses, help marketers make more precise marketing, sales, media, SEO and communications decisions by better understanding patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals and key influencers in diverse therapeutic categories. Marketeching employs proprietary methodologies in data ingestion, analyses and linguistics and has developed particularly deep expertise in oncology, hematology, immunology, neurology, diabetes and rare diseases.

“W2O Group has an impressive track record of client service, innovation and growth,” said Johnson. “This new partnership will enable us to more rapidly expand our geographic reach and client base, as well as enhance our offerings. We are excited to leverage W2O’s technology platforms to more powerfully support and deliver on client marketing and strategy initiatives, while opening new career growth opportunities to our team.”

Marketeching, which currently employs 20 people, will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of W2O Group. It will be operated independently by Johnson, who will remain president and report to Paul Dyer, president of W2O Group’s Analytics and Insights practice. That practice currently operates out of seven of W2O’s 12 offices across the United States and Europe and accounts for nearly 20 percent of the firm’s overall revenue, more than half of which is related to healthcare.

“Healthcare, like every large industry, is being reshaped by a number of factors, including new technologies, regulations and the cost/access argument, which is central to patient advocacy,” Dyer added. “In the current environment, in which consumer choice is becoming increasingly influential, it is critical that healthcare companies make the most informed business decisions they can in the face of such complex, multi-dimensional global market forces.”

Earlier this year, W2O Group announced that Mountaingate Capital, a leading middle-market private equity investment firm, had secured an investment position in the organization as a means to significantly fuel its continued growth through a mix of strategic business acquisitions, talent, expanded global footprint and increased innovation around its offerings, models and capabilities.

Weiss added, “This is another in a series of add-on acquisitions we plan to do over the next few years to round out and diversify our offerings and capabilities to become the best integrated communications and marketing agency we possibly can, based on input from and for our clients.”

Award-winning journalist/senior advisor Mike Huckman and team to counsel executives in corporate messaging, organizational positioning and strategy articulation

SAN FRANCISCO & WILMINGTON, N.C.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–W2O Group, a network of complementary, integrated digital, communications and marketing firms, today announced the formation of a new executive development offering. Called Connect, the offering is designed to improve leadership capabilities, specifically communications skills, of C-Suite leaders, subject matter experts and key opinion leaders to ensure organizations remain relevant and resonant in a social/digital reality.

Mike Huckman, W2O Global Practice Leader, Executive Communications, will lead the new offering. He recently joined W2O Group as part of the Pure Communications acquisition and is a respected, award-winning former journalist and a long-time communications advisor to CEOs, senior executives and external experts.

Connect takes a multidisciplinary approach to helping executives improve organizational clarity, both internally and externally. For many CEOs and senior leaders this remains a critical priority for achieving sustained success. The offering is designed to develop and improve the skills and techniques of executives, external thought leaders and subject matter experts so they can assess, navigate and engage more effectively in positioning and propelling their organizations, strategies, programs and brands to advance their strategic decision-making capabilities and more creatively and effectively shape their narrative.

“More than ever, senior leaders are facing myriad challenges and opportunities to improve their organization’s fundamentals and stay relevant,” said Jim Weiss, founder and CEO of W2O Group. “Mike and his team will utilize a deep and essential understanding based on proven methodologies to help executives clarify, motivate and inspire their global teams and external influencers during times of turmoil, change and unpredictability.”

“The key for leaders and other corporate representatives and spokespeople to communicate effectively in today’s world is to focus on articulating messages in a way that all audiences can understand and be inspired to act on,” Huckman said. “Our approach is specifically designed to help them do that and to connect to all stakeholders with much greater impact, clarity and resonance.”

The Connect team will utilize Inception,™a software-based crisis/issues protocol based on a social/digital-oriented simulation, as an integrated element of this new offering. The protocol tests and catalyzes organizational prowess in mitigating and addressing issues on a real-time basis.

Before joining Pure, Huckman held a senior role at MSL New York. He spent nearly 30 years as a global and local TV news reporter, including 10 years at business cable network CNBC.

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–W2O Group, a network of complementary analytics-directed, digitally-oriented marketing and communications firms, announced today the appointment of Richard Neave as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Neave joins from Huntsworth Health where he was global CFO, and will report to W2O Founder and CEO Jim Weiss.

Neave is replacing Tony Esposito, who has been CFO since 2008 and who will continue to consult for the firm in the near term as he starts his own financial advisory practice.

“Richard not only brings strong, highly relevant experience and acumen to the organization, but arrives at a time when we are moving to the next level of growth and accelerating our mission to ‘Become the Best’ for our staff and clients in the healthcare, technology, consumer and global brands sectors,” said Weiss. “I would like to acknowledge and thank Tony, who has been my partner and a key architect of the firm’s success. He has been at the center of every key decision we’ve made to grow and dimensionalize our offerings to date.”

Neave brings nearly two decades of financial expertise in the healthcare and media sectors, including business planning and analysis. At Huntsworth, he headed the strategic finance function across the business and led the budgeting and audit process as well as acquisition integration. Prior to Huntsworth, he held top financial positions at Ogilvy, Medialink and Edelman. At W2O Group, Neave will oversee all financial aspects – planning, reporting, risk assessment, M&A and budget management – as the firm scales and grows globally.

“I’m excited to be joining W2O Group and working with Jim and the team at such an important juncture in its evolution,” Neave said. “The firm is widely known for its innovative approach to using analytics and insights to be precise in marketing communications to gain competitive advantage for organizations and brands.”

Neave will be based in the firm’s San Francisco headquarters.

During Esposito’s tenure, W2O Group grew exponentially from just two offices and about $13 million in revenue to a dozen offices approaching $100 million in revenue.

“It’s bittersweet to be leaving an organization that has been such an important part of my life,” Esposito said. “Yet, at the same time, I can’t think of a better time to pursue multiple opportunities to serve as a catalyst for organizations looking to grow and succeed in this new social/digital era as W2O has.”

Earlier this year, W2O Group announced a partnership with Mountaingate Capital, a leading middle-market private equity investment firm. Mountaingate Capital secured an investment position in W2O Group as a means for it to significantly fuel its continued growth through a mix of strategic business acquisitions, talent, expanded global footprint and increased innovation around its offerings, models and capabilities. W2O Group’s first such move was announced on September 7 when it acquired Pure Communications, LLC, a leading strategic communications consultancy focused in the healthcare industry.
