Most powerful NFL teams by social media are…

W2O Group has kicked off football season by ranking all 32 NFL teams’ social media presence. (See interactive infographic below.) Spoiler alert: The San Francisco 49ers are number one. And personal bias didn’t land them there.

Instead, we used a proprietary W2O algorithm to index each team’s reach, relevance, and resonance in social media. We looked at metrics such as shares, likes, comments, retweets and ratings across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and the web.

The rankings don’t actually don’t predict team performance but they do indicate which teams have passionate fans online. So why did we do it?

As Michael Westgate, our Director of Social Commerce, puts it, “We like to geek out on digital relevance metrics as a foundation for marketing communications strategy. By ranking these teams’ ability to connect with their fans across digital and social channels, we’re essentially hinting at ideal targets for ad dollars and brand partnerships.” Marketers can learn what drives a team’s online audience engagement and where that overlaps with their product experience –allowing them to start relevant, captivating conversations with potential customers. Pretty cool!

We’ll continue exploring other drivers of relevance as the season progresses so stay tuned. In the meantime, see the full list and more at: http://blog.wcgworld.com/2013/09/w2o-ranks-teams-of-the-nfl#sthash.hN19Sob0.dpuf
